Week 1, day 5: Unexpected work time

Nugget asked me to go into the school area so that she could be my teacher. We only had about 20 minutes in there, but she chose the small containers (again telling stories about the mice that live in them), sink and float, and the snap frame (which she's mastered).

  1. Hi,

I was just re-reading Meg's albums from the Yahoo group "Montessori by Hand." You should join and download her albums (in the "links" section of the group). Her albums are totally different than any others in that there are "notes" after each presentation that answer a lot of questions you've been asking. For example, are they allowed to knock down the pink tower (no). In the sensorial album she has a paragraph about where to draw the line when the child is "experimenting" with the material (page 5 "role of the adult).

  2. Ooo, that sounds like a great album, and the group looks great! Thanks for the pointer!

I've been on the fence about knocking over the Pink Tower. I know Dr. Montessori wasn't necessarily against it (http://www.mymontessorihouse.com/2008/04/sensorial-knocking-down-pink-tower.html), but it seems weird to allow that and then be more strict with other materials.

I guess it's down to that balance I'm still trying to find.
